She enjoys all the themed holiday meals they provide her as she is no longer able to travel outside the facility to join us for family holiday meals. She has a nurse that has been assigned to her and over seeing her medical condition. They take good care of her and meet her medical needs. They paired her with a room mate that she enjoys sharing her days with. Though she misses being able to live at home she is content with her living arrangement at Sunrise. My Grandmother is a resident at Sunrise and has been since early last year. I have in fact, recommended it to several close friends with aging parents. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about Sunrise as an assisted living facility. Which is understandable, she missed her independence and her home. These were all creature comfort requests for things she wanted in her room when she was first settling in and was unhappy until she received them. I have never seen anything that I could report as a "negative." She has had minor issues that were all resolved to her satisfaction, but they were not issues directly related to the staff, at Sunrise. Her nurses and care providers are all very cheerful and know us all by name when we come in to visit her now. It has been a little over a year now and the facility has maintained a consistent standard of care for her. Which is consistent with our first impression when we first toured the facility. The entire facility is very well maintained, clean, and has a positive atmosphere. When we met with the administrator (Paula is her first name) to determine if this was the best facility for Grandma, she was very helpful and took the time to answer all of our questions to help us determine if this was the best "fit" for her and her health, and medical needs. Now, she makes it to her scheduled appointments without issue. Previously she had to rely on her caregiver to show up (not always a given) and get her there on time and back home again. They see to it that she is transported to and from her doctors appointments 45 minutes away in Anchorage which is also a benefit to her in many ways. She is receiving far better care than she would have at home. Though she does complain that the cost to her is double that of her former living expenses, which it is at $7000.00 per month. The cost associated with care at this facility versus having an in home care nurse is comparable. She loves to watch tv and enjoys the community room where they all gather to watch movies together.
